Cummins .ECFG checksum correction

The .ecfg is the file Calterm reads to know what a calibration contains — which parameters exist, where they live and what they are called. Edit it and its checksum stops agreeing with the contents, so Calterm will not load it at all: no parameter list, no work. We recalculate the checksum and hand the file back with your changes intact.

Symptoms this fixes

  • Calterm refuses the .ecfg, or reports it as corrupt, invalid or the wrong version.
  • Parameters that were visible before have vanished from the list after an edit.
  • The metafile was edited to expose or rename something and stopped loading afterwards.
  • An .ecfg was rebuilt, trimmed or assembled from two sources.

What is covered

Cummins .ecfg metafiles used with Calterm III across the CM2350, CM2450, CM871 and CM2250 families. Note that .ecfg and .xcal are two different files with two different jobs: if both need correcting, that is two orders, and each one is worked on separately — see Cummins .XCAL checksum correction.

What to send

  • The edited .ecfg.
  • The original .ecfg, if you still have it.
  • A line about what you changed — not required, but it tells the technician where to look first.

From order to delivery

  1. Order the service (one file per order).
  2. Send the file by reply or through the contact form.
  3. We correct the checksum and return the file, usually within one business day.

Asked often

Will my renamed or newly exposed parameters survive? Yes. We touch the verification values, nothing else.

Can you tell me why it broke? Usually, yes — and if the file is damaged in a way a checksum will not fix, we say so instead of returning something that only looks right.

Is a matching .xcal needed? Not for this job, but send it if it is part of the same problem: it can make the diagnosis quicker.

Four steps, start to finish

01

Order the right line

Pick the family that matches your file and pay. One order per file — batches are welcome, one line each.

02

Send the file

Reply to the receipt or use the contact form. Send the original read too if you still have it: it is not required, but it halves the guesswork.

03

We do the work

A technician confirms which family and map area the file belongs to, then corrects the checksums — or decrypts the file, if that is what you ordered.

04

You get it back

Back to the same email address, usually within one business day, done and ready to use.

  • One file, one price — no subscription, no hourly billing.
  • Nothing is connected to your truck: this is file work from start to finish.
  • Only what has to change changes — your edits come back exactly as you made them.
