One of the services we offer is DPF, or diesel particulate filter, delete. While the component has good intentions, it often ends up being more trouble than it’s worth in the long-term. Deleting it can thereby eliminate the potential harm it may cause, while also offering owner-operators and fleet managers some additional benefits.

DPF : THE BASICS

The DPF comes standard on most diesel engine vehicles, and it’s designed to capture soot and other pollutants before they have a chance to be emitted into the atmosphere. However, being that this component is a filter, it needs to be cleaned to remove the soot and contaminant buildup from time to time. This is accomplished via a process called “regeneration” – and it’s a very problematic process.

In order for regeneration to take place, the vehicle must travel at speeds of 45 miles per hour (or more) consistently so that the DPF can heat to burn out the contaminants. But being that regeneration can take up to 45 minutes to complete, maintaining consistently high speeds can be a challenge for some diesel drivers – and when regeneration cannot occur, the DPF can become clogged and the engine can also sustain damage.

Rather than deal with the hassle of a clogged DPF and potential engine damage – not to mention the repairs and downtime that come with such – many owner-operators and fleet managers just opt to have the component deleted altogether.

BENEFITS OF INTERNATIONAL DPF DELETE

Aside from eliminating the maintenance and possible repair issues associated with the DPF, there are various other benefits to deleting it. These include:

Fuel economy improvement: In order for regeneration to occur, the DPF draws in fuel. After the DPF is deleted, fuel economy often improves because this fuel is no longer needed for filter cleaning.

Improved engine power: The DPF also restricts the engine, preventing it from operating at its full potential. Many diesel owners and fleet managers report a noticeable performance improvement following deletion.
